I joined under the one of the biggest $$$ and high profile people in the company, was told Market America was going to be the next fortune 500 club (and this was several years ago! this has NEVER happened and Market America has never TAKEN OFF or TAKEN OVER the world as they try to get everyone to believe.

It has however, taken many people's hard earned money. Do NOT be fooled by this greed; I Lost thousands to this company. They tell you if you are not making money; that you are a Lard *** and that you aren't 'working' the system. I did everything they said, spent numerous hours going to those boring meetings and talking to people and recruited at least 5 people who also went to meetings etc and so on.

And what they mean by this is recruit all and anyone that you know. Which means that most of your friends and family end up keeping their distance from you OR never speak to you again. Trust me, I had to apologize to many of them for being such a brainwashed ***. I decided to do Motives make up to make $ on the side , and thank goodness I did because at least that worked out, I started my own wedding make up business.

I did not sell the products to clients unless they asked me where to get something I used. But eventually, I ditched the very OVER priced products and used whatever I wanted. I was lucky as I am an artist and make up was easy for me to do. I was able to re-coup some of the money lost by taking Market America lemons and making lemonade-- but guess what?

I would never had to have a SECOND back breaking job every week-end had I never joined Market America. I would have been fine at my regular day job had I not lost soooo much money on this scam!!! I had to work that side job for years to pay for the useless amount of products they told me I 'needed ' in my store and to pay off the travel expenses for going to all these ridiculous leadership meetings in other states-- Which consists of the big shots standing on stage saying the same things over and over and how they used to have job (just over broke) and now they don't ever have to work again. None of which I believe.

Most of the people in MA are not making money ; they are doing what is told --fake it until you make it. So, it's constant B.S, And everyone gets all excited and tries to recruit the waitresses and the bus driver and anyone who will listen to the *** for two seconds. Then if you do make any $ , the monthly requirement payment goes up to 150 per month. And that means you have to purchase that amount of product per month.

Products that you don't NEED. Ugh. I try not to regret things in my past, but this is one of those regrets and I wish I could scream it from the roof tops : DON'T DO IT. You will regret it and lose lots of money.

And I wish to God someone had told me this...but it was rather new when I started... so I learned the hard way.

Reason of review: your a scam.

Monetary Loss: $10000.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: Marlborough, Massachusetts

So, I guess you did not want to work it and sell product that you order monthly, It was not for you... How do you except to make any money is the product is not in the consumers hands...

You think your 40 h job is better.. try not to produce for your company, and you will see how fast you will be out...

Instead, you rant about you being lazy and not capable of selling a few great product a month... Get a life!!1

Why is it the MLM / MA shills and minion always scorn people's jobs? We did not drink the Koolaid and we're not fooled by the lies.

You obviously didn’t read what she said. She did try, and spent all her money and ended up working harder than she was at the beginning to try and make up for it.

I also left market America.

Y’all are brainwashed and you’ll mostly be broke at the end and the people on top will take all your money. Have fun with that.

I feel sorry it didnt work out for you, but i think its because you decided to do it alone. Its never meant to be done alone.

And if you do decide to do it alone, make sure to have a lot of customers using the products. Icthink what happened was whoever brought you into the business hyped everything so much and made you buy products you didnt need. Coz if you look at the price, mac is more expensive than motives. And quality wise, there is no difference.

You shouldve just asked that friend to sell the products to you at wholesale price and did your own business as a MAke up business. Coz this business if not done properly will deplete your resources.

Faster than you can say "i quit".

Motives cosmetics is a great product, you just started it the wrong way.

if you want to work for MA/Shop.com and be successful, you gotta be good at selling dreams to people and hopefully they join.

Use NPV(Net present value) approach to decide whether you should take on the investment or not guys.

I agree. Its a scam and people need to know.

First off the products are way over priced, shipping is expensive and when I returned a shipment that I never opened the charged my 10% restocking fees, the expensive shipping charges and a $20 web fee I don't know for what. It took a month to get $98 refund for products they charged me $141. I'm a Costco fan.

I can return anything there with a full refund even shipping if its online. Market America is ***

I feel like you are writing my exact story. I turned it into a wedding makeup business and actually started making money--but not a dime on the makeup...or very little.

Sorry this happened to you. I feel horrible, because the one recruit I had join was a young girl who bought an entire kit of makeup. I offered her legitimate work with my bridal makeup company, but she flaked out on that, so ended up losing $1800 by not using her makeup kit. I feel terrible about it-although purchasing the kit myself did launch my career as a legit MUA.

Stay away from this everyone.

There is a reason why these hucksters are going over seas for new suckers. The jig is up, the US is saturated and/or most people know this is all BS.

I'm 100% convinced that their lead puppet for the Motives line, Laura Laire, is being paid to prop up their company. Either that, or she was one of the first people in the door; the 1% that is making anything.

They are scheisters and now they are going overseas to prey on poor unsuspecting people that don't understand the greedy ways of American MLMers. So sad and embarassing for her, and anyone else that is stuck in this scheme.

Laura Laire did indeed get in very early on the pyramid scheme that is Market America. She grew up poor and always swore her children would not do the same.

I believe she would do anything for money, and has. When I see the trappings she has surrounded herself with it is hard for me to remember just how cool she used to seem.

If you had half a brain you would understand if you started your own wedding makeup business then all the motives you were buying would have made you double the profit.

You are SO misinformed about the reality of this scheme. I suggest you research the facts and actually try doing it yourself for a good 2 years before you drink their Kool-Aid.

All of my "profit" when immediately back into their products to sustain my "business".

All of my REAL profits came from my legitimate on-location business. If you want to run/own a cosmetics company, go straight to the manufacturer and do it right.

Thank you. I have a friend recruiting me now.

I was afraid of this very thing, so I decided to do my research first.

I have a very fixed income, and am not in a position to be able to lose ANY money! I appreciate your posting about your experience very much!

The requirements are too high and the products are too expensive at Market America shop.com don't do it. It's a fake it until you make it and use people by recruiting and scamming them.

No makeup pallet costs $200 for a little thing. I can go to the mall and get top quality pallets for $20 and they have more over priced junk and cash back on a TV is like $1.00 what a joke!

The issue is not with pricing, it's with the entire legitimacy of how they run their business. 99% of people will lose money--it's a statistical fact. I buy makeup that costs way more than theirs all the time at Sephora, etc.

Go to the mall and get a 60 pan pallet for $20. Top quality pallets for $20 is a joke.

I have to say that this person has absolutely no idea what it takes to be a business person. The think that just talking is enough.

Ask people like Donald Trump Robert Kiyosaki even Kim Kardashian, yes when it comes to business you have to work hard. You have to promote your product and you gave to continue your education. Any doctor, lawyer or business person all know the same thing that you have to expand distribution and have consumable products or services. If you are so smart about business how far have you gotten with your makeup business.

All high professionals go to meeting and to training all the time. I worked for a marketing company in the lat 90s and early 2000 as a project manager. I had to go to trainings all the time and had company meetings everyday at 10:00am to discuss projects where we are, what we've accomplished and what we have to do. I never questioned my requirements.

Obviously this person has no idea how real business is conducted. My family comes from the restaurant industry. We've worked hard all our friends and family came to our restaurant we promoted our restaurant to our friends and family. When a new executive, lawyer, doctor move offices and become a new partner they tell all their friends and family and send notices requesting their families to come to utilize their services.

So see a pattern here. Before you bash a company think about it maybe you just weren't right for it just like not everyone is a lawyer or a doctor. Your problem is that you're an artist you over think things. I'm an artist too so I understand.

Market America doesn't make you do anything you decide what "YOU" Want to do or buy. If you don't have the funds you don't have to spend them the monthly requirements you obviously didn't understand you were supposed to transfer your buying habit from the other stores to your own store. You own a mall why shop from anyone else. I'm an art is I but I'm also disabled due to a car accident I can't go shopping like I use to but the internet provides me the ability I need, its great to shop and get cash back for the same thing you buy anyway.

Also the vitamins they promote have saved my life more then once. Try walking with rods and cages along your whole spine dealing with the pain every day, with OPC3 and a few of their other neutraceuticals I can walk with my cane. So before you judge a company with one review check out the company thoroughly and then make a decision before you invest. This is an investment in a business.

And for this person that has lost.

A lot of money obviously she didn't use her own products and also had never been a business person. That's not bad but check out others franchises and their requirements before you throw stones.

You are seriously trying to earn credibility by using Kim Kardashian as an example of a "business woman"??? Really?? I couldn't read the rest of your post after seeing that; there was NO way I could take you seriously.
